What to Look For

Considering a degree program from a ¨Private University¨ is somewhat different than a traditional one. Consider this:
Your degree from a ¨Private University¨ offering non-traditional external degree programs is an endorsement of your extensive and in-depth career experience, and should validate your commitment to life long learning and education (including self-education). It should tell the world that you are committed to excellence, both professionally and personally.
Stability:
- How long has your university been issuing degrees?
- Will your university live as long as you do?
Reputation:
- Has your university established itself and created a strong awareness in your world, or any for that matter?
Faculty:
- Who will review your experience, background, and competencies to determine your education level, and what you will need to do to complete your degree program?
- Who will review your course work?
- What is their education and background?
- Are they published?
- How long have they been with the university?
- Are they easily accessible?
- Where do the live (city, state, country, etc.)?
- How are they paid?
- Is there a governing board?
Alumni:
- Have any alumni distinguished themselves?
- Do the alumni from your university publish their work?
- Is there an alumni association?
- Do the alumni maintain a strong network?
Verification:
The possibility that someone will want to verify your credentials is very real, and the ability to have your credentials verified is an absolute must. Finding and contacting your university should not require your help, and your employer should be able to do this without
having to involve you (except for a formal release).
Accreditation:

and ask your university how they would answer these questions!

Real life experience counts. If you had to choose between a seasoned pilot and a newly licensed pilot to fly your airplane, which would you prefer?
